WHAT ARE Healing Experts had to say about Floating....
In my practice, the vast majority of clients I work with are those with chronic conditions.
These conditions have varying diagnosis (IBS, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, crohns, etc). While the diagnosis varies, the common thread is that these people have tried everything to remedy their symptoms: conventional medicines, alternative medicines, voodoo. You name it; they’ve likely tried it.
The challenge I see again and again in clinic is that practitioners are too focused on their particular specialty. The chiropractor looks to your spine, the acupuncturist looks to your meridians, the massage therapist to your muscles.
In approaching cases this way, we neglect to look at the most fundamental reasons our clients are sick: Diet and Lifestyle.
Two factors everyone inherently knows contribute to illness. You don’t need to have a medical license to draw the connection.
Floatation tanks are an integral part of a successful treatment plan when addressing lifestyle factors.
The most common lifestyle illness seen in the clinic is what is known as hypothalamus-pituitary axis dysfunction (HPA-D). You may know it as adrenal fatigue or the reason you can’t loose weight around your abdomen or the reason you can’t fall asleep at night or why you have no energy in the morning.
How to remedy this problem?
We need to alter our lifestyle (and diet to a certain extent) – HPA-D is brought on by our body’s interpretation of our environment being stressful. This could be your job, your hectic schedule, the lack of “you” time, and/or pre-existing medical conditions.
So, what to do about this?
Well, the first step is re-training your body how to relax. I have found no faster nor efficient way for this to occur than floating. Floating creates the perfect environment for the body to relax – there are no stimuli whatsoever. In fact, even the sense of one’s own body is able to melt away. When was the last time you lost the sense of your body?!
We have seen in heart rate variability readings (a device that measures the stress/relaxation response of one’s nervous system) that the simple act of lying in a float tank for 60 minutes will improve one’s scores by an average of sixty percent. That’s going from fight or flight response to a rest and digest response in only sixty minutes. And all you have to do is lay there! Amazing.
To summarize, floating is an integral part of my treatment recommendations as it provides the perfect environment for one’s nervous system to come to rest.
