Is floating for me?

Do you like to relax? Are you human? If you answered yes to both of those questions, then floating is for you. Read on.

Who can float?

Everyone! Well, there are some conditions that may require assistance and you should always check with your doctor if you have questions about your specific health history before floating, but in general, it's a safe and natural way to improve your health! Please let us know if you have epilepsy, heart conditions, or are diabetic, have cancer or being treated for cancer, pregnant or on your moon time.

Do I need to bring anything?

Nope, just yourself. Towels, robes, earplugs and everything else you need are provided.

What if I am claustrophobic?

People with claustrophobia consistently report no problems with floating. You are always in control of your environment and can get out at anytime.

Can I drown if I fall asleep in the floatation tank?

No. Some people fall asleep, but the water is so buoyant you stay afloat at all times. The worst that can happen is getting woken up by a bit of salt water in your eyes.

How are the tanks kept clean?

The highly sterile salt water is fully filtered 3 times between each float, and is sanitized with UV light and Ozone along with 35% hydrogen peroxide. We were part of the core team that worked with Health Services in updating the International guidelines for Float Tanks.

How often should I float?

This will be in accordance to why you are coming into float - pain management, relaxation, anxiety/ depression, curiosity. Check out suggestions here

Is floatation therapy covered under insurance?

Float sessions are covered under some health spending accounts or with a doctors note you may be able to claim them on your taxes. Please contact your health benefit company to inquire about their policy.

What if I just got a tattoo?

We love new ink, especially after the scabbing has healed. It is important to wait a couple weeks to ensure the water doesn’t soak the scab and then pull out any of the color or ask your artist for a dermal patch.

What does sensory deprivation mean?

The deliberate reduction or removal of stimuli from one or more of the senses. And it also means happiness…simple, blissful, happiness.

Is floating in an isolation tank similar to meditation?

Many people find floating very similar to meditation as you enter a similar state of altered consciousness.

Should a person have experience with meditation before floating in a sensory deprivation tank?

Experience with meditation is not required, although is helpful to go a little deeper with the float experience.  Within about 45 minutes of limited stimulus on the brain, it will enter into Theta brainwaves, which will naturally bring you into a meditative state. This will be one of the most relaxing states you will experience and will last for hours and even days afterwards. We call this the post float bliss.

Can floating assist with pain relief/pain management?

It is one of the most effective and natural ways to work with your body towards pain relief.  While floating, the body enters a restful state and the nerves that sense pain are calmed. This equals 60-90 minutes without any pain and effects can last upwards of days afterwards with floating as an integrated part of your weekly routine.

Will floating help to reduce stress?

One of the best things in our day is watching the transformation from ‘super deadline stress guy’ to ‘super mellow love everything and what is time anyways’ guy.  The one hour your invest in yourself equals countless hours of mind clarity, effective decision making and information being readily available dissolving anything stressful into a totally easy and doable task. Your body will feel regenerated and ready for performance. All you need now is a cape.

I am pregnant, can I float?

Tanks are like Womb² and it’s absolutely safe to float while you are pregnant.  Your body will thank you. The tanks mimic the sacred womb space where connecting with baby occurs naturally in a most nurturing environment.

Are there benefits to floating in Epsom Salts?

There are many benefits, such as: skin and hair health, muscle and joint soreness, cleansing and detoxing the body, absorption of magnesium that can be lacking in our diet.

Is Magnesium important for the human body?

Certainly! Magnesium plays a key role in protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control, and blood pressure regulation. Magnesium is required for energy production, the structural development of bone and also plays a role in the transportation of calcium and potassium ions across cell membranes, a process that is important to nerve impulse conduction, muscle contraction, and normal heart rhythm.

  • BETA WAVES: Walking rhythm focusing on the external world

  • ALPHA WAVES: Alert but unfocused. One’s eyes are usually closed, feeling relaxed.

  • THETA WAVES: State of calmness and relaxation deepening into drowsiness and the brain shifts to more powerful, slower rhythmic waves. This happens twice a day with falling into sleep and coming out of sleep. It is the state the can be accompanied by dreamlike but vivid mental images usually from memories. Offers a free association state, quieting the mind and body and promotes creativity. These waves are predominating in young children. It is a meditative state, one that skilled monks can do at will after twenty years of discipline and practice
